Life in the transition – juggling paradoxical filters (December 16)
I am currently editing the notes of our most recent call in preparation for the 9th Women Moving the Edge gathering – to be held in the Netherlands in January. L. and A-M. being busy meshworking in Copenhagen, our check-in was very much about that – and L. was voicing some pain … “While what we are doing is very much an expression of the feminine sensitivity, I personally also feel a disconnect with what the masculine is cooking up in the mean time. And I see my own distortion, and yet it appears very true. Somehow, the big thing could not be done without the hosting and the loveliness of amazing young people who are stepping in and having these beautiful conversations. And yet there are ‘more important things’ to be done, that can only be done by brilliant men”.
Ria came in, and mentioned that she was currently reading the harvest from a deep circle that she had participated in. I have read it now, too – here are some of the words that resonate: “It is possible to listen beyond our minds when we know we have the support of each other”. And “part of me wants power and influence, and another part of me knows about holding and nurturing space for emergence”.
So the pattern I am seeing is the overlay of two filters that are mutually exclusive – or are they just in a paradoxical relationship? There’s the one that is our sensing and longing into future possibility, and our experimenting and prototyping how to get there; and there’s the other, which is the holder of our deep, deep collective conditioning, that holds our unshakable belief that things are the way they are because this is the only way they can be… The only truth is the prevailing world view, and any changes we make must be made in its terms.
This is where the confusion lies – and our edge is in teasing out these two lenses and learning to distinguish which thoughts are coming from which space. Once we have that clarity, we can begin to move with choice and intention: away from a paradigm that is no longer serving humanity or our planetary home, and towards the next paradigm that can bring us back towards balance, health and wholeness.
